Partnership working
The current social policy agenda has established a demand for involvement in decision making about the delivery of services at a local level. As a consequence it is now a requirement to have community representation at board level in government or public funded programmes such as Strategic Partnerships, Primary Care Trusts, Sure Start Partnerships, New Deal, Children’s Fund and Social Regeneration Programmes… etc.
Governance Works has undertaken action research projects that have explored the meaning of partnerships and, the development of good governance.

Inclusion for real!
“My worst experience was being part of a Board for over a year and not understanding what I was there for. I am sure I was chosen because of the colour of my skin and not for any contribution I could make.”
Ranjana Bell
Inclusion has adopted ‘buzz word’ status - many organisation are talking inclusion.
The reasons for wanting a more inclusive board are varied. However many organisations are struggling to find ways of achieving inclusion that goes beyond simply ensuring representation by excluded or disadvantaged groups on their board.
This research project seeks to identify good practice through a series of illustrative case studies, learning from these to create a set of recommendations for the development of effective inclusion.
Regional Survey of Governance – biannual survey into attitudes and trends of the non profit distributing community.
A research study to assess attitudes, understanding and need in governance of non profit distributing organisations will be piloted in the North East.
